Jay T. Silence, Interim pastor
In September, Hunter was pleased to welcome “J.T”. as our new interim pastor. Rev. “J.T.” Silence was born in the small town of Paxton, IL. He comes to us with diverse experiences in youth ministry and a strong calling for intergenerational learning. As a child, J.T. was a perennial visitor to Camp Carew, the camp of his home Presbytery. He served Camp Carew as a summer camp staff member while attending Eastern Illinois University. Through his camp experiences, he perceived a call to ministry, which led him to Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He has served as pastor in Presbyterian churches in Elizabethtown, KY, southwest VA, and Vincennes, IN. Immersion trips to China and Nicaragua have been transformative opportunities to truly experience what it is like to be “a stranger.” He moved to Lexington in late 2004, and has served as a youth director and Associate Pastor at Beaumont Presbyterian Church and as Interim Director of Burnamwood Camp. After several years working in retail, he recently felt the call to return to ministry. In the coming year, J.T. will be leading us in a process of discernment and reflection while the church selects a permanent pastor. J.T. says of his call to help Hunter in this interim process: “My experience of Hunter is that you are… capable of accomplishing whatever you dream. Furthermore, I have faith that God’s Spirit will guide us along the way. I am ready for the journey!”
